Terrazzo, a Slam Dunk!

Have you filled out all your brackets? It’s that time of year! Today is the official start of March Madness! Who else gets a little excited about their favorite team playing? Anyone, Anyone?!  Whether you’re rooting for the Big 10, ACC or a mid major we hope you have one eye set on those beautiful terrazzo floors!

Stadiums, arenas, and ball parks play host to millions of visitors every year.  These venues are used in a variety of formats to host sporting events, concerts, conventions, as well as many other entertainment functions.  These facilities are relied upon to be flexible in order accommodate many different events.

To accommodate high volumes of visitors, stadiums are being designed with large areas of usable space. During events held at these arenas you can count on heavy foot traffic from all the activity of the spectators getting in and out of the facility, getting to their seats, and visiting the concession areas. There isn’t a better flooring option suited to handle this task than Terrazzo.

Hit it out of the park with Durability

Many sports venues around the world have withstood the test of time serving as the home of its respective team for many years. Terrazzo proves to be the obvious choice with its functionality and performance surpassing those of other flooring systems. Terrazzo’s impeccable durability and strength are ideal for all the various high traffic areas found within sporting venues such as the concourses, hallways, rest rooms, suites, and vendor shops.

Renovations and additions are very common in these types of facilities as well. Other flooring systems such as vinyl tile have to be replaced frequently in these large, high traffic areas, while terrazzo stands the test of time usually outlasting the building itself. The initial cost of other flooring systems might appear to be more affordable, but don’t be fooled by an initial savings that will end up costing you more over the long haul.

Design Flexibility – A Winner for Creativity

One of the greatest characteristics of terrazzo is the expansive design flexibility. With limitless epoxy color possibilities and various aggregate selections this gives the owner/designer the ability to create “branding” in the venue by including team logos, mascots, or corporate sponsorships. The limitless design options also provide an opportunity to use the terrazzo flooring as way-finding for the patrons to locate exits, rest rooms, seating, or concessions.

Limited only by your imagination, the possibilities are endless in what you can portray through a floor.

Sustainability – Score LEED Points With Terrazzo

Terrazzo flooring was one of the original recycled products created centuries ago by workers utilizing waste chips from marble slab processing. Today, terrazzo LEED’s the way by offering terrazzo aggregates, binders and finished systems that can help your projects contribute to US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) credits, under the LEED Rating system, version 2.0.

  • Recycled Content — Terrazzo flooring may contain post industrial and post consumer recycled glass and or stone aggregate.
  • Local Regional Materials — Terrazzo is manufactured on-site which reduces waste and transportation costs. Also, an assortment of marble and glass aggregates are available from regional quarries across the country. Terroxy Resin Systems offers two regional manufacturing locations, providing a local source for projects within 500 miles of Chicagoland and Los Angeles areas.
  • Indoor Emitting Materials — Epoxy terrazzo is an inorganic based binder containing no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Therefore, epoxy terrazzo will not threaten indoor air quality with potentially harmful off-gassing during or after the installation process.

Terrazzo’s Low Maintenance

As hotdog stands, souvenir stations & beer vendors are strategically placed throughout the concourses of stadiums and arenas, these are popular areas for fans to be hanging out during halftime or even in the middle of a double-play. Terrazzo flooring is seamless which is a “slam dunk” for multiple reasons. No seams allows for beverage carts and wheelchairs to move easily and smoothly from one end to the other. Seamless terrazzo flooring also allows for easy cleaning and sanitizing. Typical day to day maintenance only requires using a mop and a bucket of warm water. Terroxy Resin Systems Epoxy Matrix will not promote the growth of bacteria or fungus, helping to maintain sanitation and reduce the transfer of germs among spectators. The seamless feature of terrazzo floors eliminates the potential for dirt to build up in grout joints, making cleaning easy.

Bring your fans to their feet by adding terrazzo flooring to your next design.

The Future is Ultra Violet!

Who saw this coming? Pantone just announced Ultra Violet as the 2018 Color of the Year.  2017 was all about Greenary, the color of new beginnings & growth.  As we step into 2018, it’s the year of mystery, the unknown, the what’s to come.  Ultra Violet is a dramatic, provocative and thoughtful shade of purple; “it communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.’ -Pantone

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.  Ultra Violet is the perfect example of what the world needs.  Stop worrying, stop debating.  Channel your inner 5 year old self, and get lost in the power of your imagination, get creative and explore the all the possibilities that 2018 has to offer.

Different shades of purple have always made a strong impact in design and décor but now more than ever you will notice Ultra Violet popping up anywhere and everywhere.  “As individuals around the world become more fascinated with this color and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands should feel empowered to use this color to inspire and influence.”

Decorating with Ultra Violet

It’s easy to make a bold statement in any space by incorporating Ultra Violet.  Something’s very edgy and electrifying about this color.  Think dark and romantic, leather, velvet – wow are your creative juices spinning yet?  Go big or go home, right?

On the other hand, Ultra Violet can be subtle too.  It’s an easy color to work with; it’s both a warm and cool tone, very versatile when it comes to décor.  It’s a great accent color, think wall color, striking purple couch, statement pillows and so on.

Ultra Violet in any Space

Ultra Violet is a great statement color that can easily be incorporated into any space, both residential & business. Think Amethyst Precious Stone as a backsplash or a striking White Marble with intense violet veining like Greylac.

Pinterest top 100 trends to try in 2018 recently came out and Terrazzo was among the list. Up 316% on the saves, Terrazzo is bigger then ever.  With endless design and color options that are available for terrazzo, why not incorporate this savvy purple shade.

Wearing Ultra Violet

The enchanting purple is quickly making its way to the runways and the streets.  Ultra Violet becomes luxurious when paired with golds and metals.  While paired with greens and neutrals it evokes elegance.

Ultra Violet is quickly becoming the it color in beauty.  Purple shades in hair continue to elevate street styles as a symbol of creative expression.  A touch of purple on the lip or lid is a sign of confidence, not an everyday look that’s for sure.

Terrazzo: Plan Your Business From The Ground Up!

ManeCorp017 LR

When planning a business, great care is taken with every task in order to build a strong foundation. Care should also be take when selecting the building blocks of your business. Proper building materials transform the brick and mortar of a building into an office full of drive and creativity.  Design should begin where you step, with the selection of an office floor; and terrazzo is at the forefront of business flooring options.

Tested Durability

Many offices around the world have withstood the test of time serving as the headquarters of a business for many years. Terrazzo proves to be the obvious choice with its functionality and performance surpassing those of other flooring systems. Terrazzo’s impeccable durability and strength are ideal for all the various high traffic areas found within fortune 500 business such as the entryways, hallways & restrooms. Terrazzo is a popular choice in new construction as well as in office renovations.

Corradini Corp. Konami Gaming Expansion Pic #13

Initial cost vs. life-cycle cost, don’t get caught in the trap of saving now to pay later. Less expensive flooring options like carpet and vinyl tile are not the right answer. During the lifetime of a building, the total cost of flooring may exceeds times the initial cost. With terrazzo systems, floors will typically last the lifetime of a building.

Air Quality

Terrazzo flooring is seamless and does not support the growth of bacteria, mold or mildew typically the cause of this concern.  Choose terrazzo and reduce the transfer of germs among colleagues, keeping staff safe and healthy.

Eco Friendly

Interested in sustainable design and building materials? Terrazzo flooring was one of the original recycled products, and today, terrazzo aggregates, binderes and finished systems can help your projects contribute to US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) credits, under the LEED Rating System, version 4.0.

Avoid the tired finishes that haunt some offices.  Incorporate your business branding and colors into the floor; the rich color and flexible design elements can surpass nay other floor system.

Requiring only a bucket of warm water and a mop, historically terrazzo has been the most easily maintained flooring option.  Now there are also ways to make it even easier. Eliminate the “Wax On, Wax Off” build-up that has added unnecessary dollars to terrazzo flooring.  Revolutionary finish systems have returned terrazzo maintenance to daily cleaning and periodic scrubbing.

The Story Behind the Stone – Alta Quartzite

Alta Quartzite

The Search is over! Discovering this beautiful natural stone was like a ribbon cutting ceremony for the industry! Of course, finding this virgin quarry was no walk in the park. Located in a very isolated area of Brazil our stone quest began with a turbulent flight in a prop plane followed by a landing on a make shift dirt runway in the town of Macuabas. We met our team and embarked on a 14 hr drive over dirt roads.

Quarried block of Alta Quartzite

As we drove through the desert terrain, we were taken by the sudden change to a green valley. We witnessed the full color spectrum, an array of blues from the sky, greenery from the valley and warm desert colors from the terrain. It was a moment in time that transported us away from all the struggles of the day allowing us to appreciate the breathtaking scenery around us. Then we began our ascension to the end of our quest. The Portuguese word for high is Alta; as we came to the end of our climb to witness this amazing material nestled into the side of this mountain, it was clear what the name of this material would have to be.

Finding a true white quartzite is extremely rare. This material evokes the gentle elegance of a fine Italian marble without the additional maintenance. Picking the very first and best blocks out of this quarry is a memory that will be cherished for a lifetime – Please help us welcome Alta Quartzite!

Ending 2016 with a Bang! Greenery, we are ready for you!

Every year, Pantone chooses a color that reflects the current cultural climate and serves as an expression of a mood and/or attitude.  2016 was the year of Rose Quartz & Serenity, the inspiration behind this duo came from the ever changing and chaotic times where consumers were seeking harmony and mindfulness which was found in these two calming pastel colors.  We were happy to hear that Pantone unveiled the 2017 “Color of the Year” to be: Greenery.   Greenery signifies new beginnings & growth! 2017 let’s do this!

“Greenery burst forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment.  Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

Greenery is nature’s neutral! In a world taken over by technology, Pantone has partnered with Airbnb to create an experience in nature inspired by Greenary!  “There’s a growing desire to reconnect with nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe.” -Laurie Pressman, Pantone Color Institutes VP.  Disconnecting with the world and connecting with oneself can bring joy, peace and the ability to view life on a more positive note.

On top of it all, Pantone did our homework for us by creating a selection of 10 palettes pairing Greenery: http://bit.ly/2gE4JEE.  This versatile, “trans-seasonal” shade that can be seamlessly paired with a variety of different neutrals, brights, pastels, metallic and even the two 2016 colors of the year, Rose Quartz & Serenity.

We are excited to find this zesty yellow-green shade in fashion, decor, architecture and more throughout 2017!
