Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies Promotes James Bateman to Vice President – Terrazzo Division

WHEELING, Illinois – Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies, one of the country’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of Terrazzo & Stone, has promoted James Bateman to Vice President – Terrazzo Division.  Steve Murray, President/COO, has said its “A great day for T&M and Terroxy! James has been foundational to our success and his vision as a business leader will position us to continue to grow and create opportunities for our Employee Owners to thrive.”

James arrives as Vice President following 18 years of service at Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies.  Starting in March of 2002 as a member of the Terrazzo Customer Service team, James excelled in all areas of his responsibilities and showcased a strong work ethic. Gaining the trust of his colleagues and clients, James was then promoted to Terrazzo Customer Service Manager.  Managing this team gave James insight on industry trends and allowed a deeper understanding of his clients and their needs.

In 2008 James was promoted to West Coast Terrazzo Manager, tasked to lead and support the expansion of West Coast operations. Following 3 successful years of managing the West Coast Team, James was promoted to Terrazzo Division Manager back at Headquarters in Wheeling, IL.

James Bateman has shared that “Terrazzo & Marble Supply (T&M) was my first real job out of college. At the time I didn’t even know what terrazzo was. It wasn’t long after that I found myself checking out every floor I came across. When I did stumble upon a terrazzo floor, I’d analyze all aspects of the floor; what aggregate was used, the aggregate consolidation, what type of divider strip, etc. etc. It truly became a passion of mine that continues to grow every day.”

“The thing I’ve enjoyed the most during my time at T&M are the relationships I’ve developed with our customers, vendors and fellow Employee Owners. T&M has a great family culture that I’m proud to be a part of. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank my coworkers for their hard work & continued support, I wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in today without their efforts.”

James holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Management from Arizona State University and is happily married with both a son (AJ) and a daughter (Riley). Hobbies include being an avid Chicago Sports enthusiast, supporting the Bears, Bulls, Sox, Hawks, Devils & being a Terrazzo Dog 4 Life!

Introducing -TERRAZZO by Diresco

Announcer: (talks with excitement)
Wow, can we all agree Terrazzo is hotter than ever!

(crowd cheers)

New Year, who this?

Is there a better way to introduce TERRAZZO by Diresco Belgian Quartz then a short play and a puppy!? We think not.  Diresco just dropped the hottest five colors mimicking the ever popular look of terrazzo.

Behind the Look

Bram Bollen, Studio PlanB

To capitalize on this trend, Diresco and Belgian Designer, Bram Bollen, of Studio PlanB teamed up. Bram is a product designer in Europe known for his sleek contemporary aesthetic.  Together they have injected modernity into traditional terrazzo.

The 5 trendy new colors are quartz based and have the same strength, durability and ease of maintenance as all of the Diresco products.

The detailed yet simple design of these colors allows designers to be flexible and use in both modern and classic spaces.

Do you have a favorite?

Prepare to fall in love! These new colors are available in both polished and velvet finish.  Polished surfaces provide a radiant finish with an impeccable linear reflection that presents a depth and sophistication to the material.

While, the velvet surfaces provide a matte or non-reflective finish that is much softer to the eye and touch. The luxurious look and feel of the velvet finish evokes a relaxed and natural feel.

The difference between Diresco TERRAZZO & Traditional Terrazzo:

Diresco’s TERRAZZO is different from traditional terrazzo in two significant ways.

The Aggregate:  Traditional terrazzo uses crushed pieces of marble, granite, glass, even mirror. Diresco’s TERRAZZO uses crushed pieces of previously pressed Diresco quartz slabs for their aggregate.

The Aesthetic: Traditional terrazzo is usually densely packed with aggregate and held together with a cementitious or epoxy binder.  TERRAZZO’s aggregate is more sparsely broadcast allowing the background color to stand out.

terrazzoApplications

Certainly, this series is ideal for kitchen countertops, vanities, and furniture, but these slabs could also be cut down and used as a flooring option in a smaller residential application when traditional terrazzo is cost prohibitive.

We saved the best for last: Diresco TERRAZZO is also BIO/UV safe, making these the perfect option for outdoor use.

Terrazzo: Plan Your Business From The Ground Up!

When planning a business, great care is taken with every task in order to build a strong foundation. Care should also be take when selecting the building blocks of your business. Proper building materials transform the brick and mortar of a building into an office full of drive and creativity. Design should begin where you step, with the selection of an office floor; and terrazzo is at the forefront of business flooring options.

Tested Durability

Many offices around the world have withstood the test of time serving as the headquarters of a business for many years. Terrazzo proves to be the obvious choice with its functionality and performance surpassing those of other flooring systems. Terrazzo’s impeccable durability and strength are ideal for all the various high traffic areas found within fortune 500 business such as the entryways, hallways & restrooms. Terrazzo is a popular choice in new construction as well as in office renovations. Other flooring systems such as vinyl tile have to be replaced frequently in these large, high traffic areas, while terrazzo stands the test of time usually outlasting the building itself. The initial cost of other flooring systems might appear to be more affordable, but don’t be fooled by an initial savings that will end up costing you more over the long haul.

Cost

Initial cost vs. life-cycle cost, don’t get caught in the trap of saving now to pay later. Less expensive flooring options like carpet and vinyl tile are not the right answer. During the lifetime of a building, the total cost of flooring may exceeds times the initial cost. With terrazzo systems, floors will typically last the lifetime of a building.

Air Quality

Terrazzo flooring is seamless and does not support the growth of bacteria, mold or mildew typically the cause of this concern. Choose terrazzo and reduce the transfer of germs among colleagues, keeping staff safe and healthy.

Eco Friendly

Interested in sustainable design and building materials? Terrazzo flooring was one of the original recycled products, and today, terrazzo aggregates, binderes and finished systems can help your projects contribute to US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) credits, under the LEED Rating System, version 4.0.

Aesthetics

Avoid the tired finishes that haunt some offices. Incorporate your business branding and colors into the floor; the rich color and flexible design elements can surpass nay other floor system.

Care

Requiring only a bucket of warm water and a mop, historically terrazzo has been the most easily maintained flooring option. Now there are also ways to make it even easier. Eliminate the “Wax On, Wax Off” build-up that has added unnecessary dollars to terrazzo flooring. Revolutionary finish systems have returned terrazzo maintenance to daily cleaning and periodic scrubbing.

Pre-Consumer Art Glass Collection

The specialty aggregates included in terrazzo flooring are the primary ingredient of the terrazzo design mix, typically representing 70% of the flooring system. These aggregates are most commonly marble chips; however, glass and other specialty aggregates are also suitable for terrazzo flooring.

Recycled aggregate provides vibrant colors not offered by Mother Nature. The environmental benefits of recycled glass can contribute to LEED credit for your project.

T&M now supplies a unique set of aggregate colors that can be found in our Pre-Consumer Art Glass Collection!

Terrazzo: Limited Only By Your Imagination

What is terrazzo?

Terrazzo flooring systems have existed for centuries, dating back to Roman times. Marble chips, byproducts of exquisite sculptures, were mixed with cement and ground to a polished finish to create the original terrazzo flooring system. This enduring mixture is still used today, but with a few modern modifications.

With your surface as the canvas, Terroxy® Resin Systems provides the ability to transform creativity into a durable and timeless art. The glue that truly bonds your system together, Terroxy® Resin Systems’ Epoxy Matrix, provides a beautiful, seamless surface that is easy to maintain.

Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix:

Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix provides a system that is long lasting and easy to maintain. Resistant to chemicals, oil, grease and bacteria, Terroxy® Epoxy Matrix is ideal for commercial, industrial and institutional applications. This special formula does not allow for colors to fade or to wear thin. The colors you choose today will be just as vibrant in 40 years.

Terrazzo Chip-Aggregate For Terrazzo Flooring:

The specialty aggregates included in terrazzo flooring are the primary ingrediant of the terrazzo design mix, typically representing 70% of the flooring system. These aggregates are most commonly marble chips; however, glass and other specialty aggregates are also suitable for terrazzo flooring.

Domus Divider Strip:

Divider strips are commonly used in terrazzo flooring to serve two basic needs: form and function. For thin-set epoxy terrazzo, the most common divider strips are an “L” type manufactured in a white zinc alloy or brass.

Divider strips may simply serve as a transition between colors or they may be bent on the job site or water-jet cut at the factory to form intricate designs, logo artwork and lettering.

The primary function divider strips offer is to control cracking in your terrazzo flooring topping.

T&M offers custom strip design for any terrazzo project from basic patterns to the most complex designs.

ecoTrazzo-Sustainable Living:

ecoTrazzo is a thin-set epoxy terrazzo flooring system designed to provide additional green benefits relative to traditional poured-in-place terrazzo systems.

The key components to an ecoTrazzo floor include the incorporation of sustainable chips and VOC.

Common Applications:

  • Airports
  • Cafeterias
  • Hospitals
  • Locker Rooms
  • Museums
  • Office Buildings
  • Restaurants
  • Schools
  • Shopping Malls
  • Stadiums/convention centers
